The KING of batts!!!
If you’re going to choose to use batts, these are batts we recommend.
One thing you MUST be aware of when choosing any insulation product, is the installer. Check out the YouTube link above to show you a great example of how ineffective an bad install and product can be.
While we don't necessarily endorse using batts, when they are installed correctly, they are effective. To ensure a correct install, batts have to be cut precisely to size, to fit the area they will sit in. When they are not cut and fit correctly, and gaps are left, they will affect insulation effectiveness. 5% of gaps in your ceiling can cost you up to 75% effectiveness of the product. Cellulose Fibre avoids this risk because it is 'blown/pumped in', no gaps are left, and you will have 100% quality insulation effectiveness in your home.
We get our polyester batts custom made to our high specifications and are the only company that provides a really good floor batt solution. They are non-itchy, safe and look clean for customers that want to build usable space out of roof cavity. They also do not 'settle' in your roof like many fibreglass products. People with asthma and/or other particle allergies will benefit from Polyester batts as there is no dustiness or breathable particles in the product.
Polyester batts are a sound practical solution for insulating your floor space. For flooring, they are the easiest to install and will provide great insulation effectiveness to your home from the elements. They are also an excellent solution for walls.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
While they do have some acoustic benefits, they will not be as effective as a 'dense pack' product like Cellulose Fibre. Batts will not be as affective in reducing a loud sound like rain on a tin roof.
Another thing to consider is rodents and other pests. Batts are very easy for rats/mice/snakes to burrow into and nest. It is the most common problem found in ceiling insulation. Cellulose Fibre is a loose product, so rodents can not burrow into it and look elsewhere to nest.
Polyester batts are difficult to recycle. In theory you could remove and reinstall but in practice they almost always have rats and snakes in them. I have never seen any batts re used by professionals because the time involved in removing rodent damage to be able to reuse them is more than the cost of just dumping them in land fill and putting new ones in. Cellulose Fibre is not only made from recycled product, it can be vacuumed out and repurposed making it a completely recyclable product. It will never go to landfill.
